Marner Tavares although free agent signing, Reilly and Matthews should more or less spend the rest of their careers in Toronto. Kadri should have too. And the next homegrown goalie be it Woll or whoever can step up from within should as well.

Kadri is exactly the 5th best drafted player in a long whatever the fuck that means.  Rielly, Nylander, Matthews, and Marner - all clearly a level above. Trading Kadri wasn't the mistake it was the complete ineptitude on the return.

You want to bitch and moan that we had a shit D and only have $4m space but you absolutely do not want to acknowledge the fact - for it is an absolute fact - that if we had ended this year WITH Zaitsev on the roster we would still have had a shit D and we would already be over the cap by nearly half a million without any RFAs re-signed or any UFAs re-signed/replaced.

Great strides improving the defense, you say?  Cap space, you say?  

Barrie and Ceci could not have been more spectacular failures.  A more average man would've been hard pressed to downgrade from Zaitsev, but thanks to his magic numbers, locked away in the tall tower, he managed to pull it off.  
 

And the cherry on this shit sundae is, well, at least the “defensive improvements” are gone now.  Yes, they are.  And you’re left with $4m to re-sign your RFAs, Spezza, and oh by the way, you’ve exactly one RHD on the roster, and that’s Justin Holl.  
 

There you have it, kids.  Huge strides improving the defense, and tons of cap flexibility.  And now, time for balloon animals....
